Healthcare

Guests arriving under the Homes for Ukraine Scheme have full access to the National Health Service (NHS) for all their health care needs. There is no charge to have an appointment with a doctor under the NHS.

VITA have produced a useful summary of how the UK NHS works.

NHS Ukrainian

The first step in accessing free NHS services is to register with a GP (General Practitioner). GP surgeries are usually the first contact if you have a health problem. They can treat many conditions and give health advice. They can also refer you to other NHS services.

The New Forest primary care network advise that guests register with their hosts GP surgery as soon as possible after arrival. Once registered with a General Practitioner (GP) guests will be issued with an NHS number.

To save time the form below can be printed and completed by hand and then hand it in to the GP surgery. Proof of ID is not needed to register with a GP surgery but taking your passport with you may help.

Dental Care

For emergency dental care call 111 for referral to a treatment centre. It should be noted that it is very difficult for anyone to get routine dental care in England unless you pay for private treatment.

At the moment it is difficult to access routine dental care (check-ups, fillings, x-rays) under the NHS within the New Forest. It may be worth hosts talking to their own dentist to see if they would treat their guests as NHS patients.

Wellbeing

Those fleeing Ukraine will have gone through stressful and, possibly traumatic experiences in leaving friends and family, their homes and 'normal lives'.

We aim to signpost guests to services that can help

  • mental and physical health

  • overall wellbeing.

  • establish connections and routines in their local community

We recognise that support from others in the same situation is important so we have made efforts to connect those coming from Ukraine with one another.

The help that's needed is not always medicines so the Primary Care Neworks offer wellbeing support through their 'Social Prescribers'. They take a holistic approach to health and wellbeing and can provide connections to community groups and other services for practical as well as emotional support. You can contact a social prescriber directly if you feel you need support - see the leaflet for contact details.

Mental Health

Mental health support is available through the NHS and can be accessed by referral from a GP.

Trauma Support

Sane Ukraine Online offer daily Zoom trauma and resilience classes every day at 19:30 Ukraine time.
